Having or finding your purpose in your job\nis an important component in your everyday life. For the most part, we spend the\nmajority of our lives working. In fact, studies show that on average we spend\nup to 80,000 hours working over the course of our lifetimes. It\u2019s no surprise that\nmost people seek out more meaningful and fulfilling jobs. This makes complete\nsense seeing as we spend so much of our lives and energy working, we might as\nwell enjoy what we do. Finding a sense of purpose in your work is a continuous\nprocess as things change over the course of one\u2019s work life. It is important to\nconstantly re-examine your goals and your personal values in order to\nre-establish your career\u2019s purpose. In this article, we\u2019ll look at some of the\nways you can find meaning and a sense of purpose in your work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>RECONNECT\n&amp; RE-GROUP<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">A\ngreat way to find meaning and joy in your work is by being introspective re-examine\nwhy you initially began working in a particular field. Think of what attracted\nyou to the job, the things about the job that initially exited and why.\nSometimes after working the same job for a number of years the initial\nexcitement fades away and your work may seem like another mundane task. In\nother instances, your priorities may shift and this is why introspection is\nimportant knowing that the person you are today still finds interest in their\njob and still prioritises it. Also make a point to find new reasons to love\nyour job as it will result in a more purposeful and fulfilling work life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\"><li><strong>FOCUS ON YOUR PASSIONS<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">Sometimes,\nit may not always be possible to find work that perfectly aligns with your\npassions. However, there are ways to incorporate your passions into your work.\nAs you work, find small ways to integrate your values and the things you\u2019re\npassionate about in to your work. By doing so, you\u2019ll be able to derive more\nmeaning from your work. As the saying goes; \u201c<em>If you do what you love, you\u2019ll never work a day in your life<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\"><li><strong>MAKE MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">By\nnature, we are social beings and we derive meaning, purpose and fulfilment from\nthe various connections we make throughout our lives. The same is equally true\nwith the connections we make while at work. Having high-quality work\nrelationships boost morale and offer a sense of community. When we feel close\nand connected with our colleagues we strive to ensure that we do our best on\nteam projects and individual assignments in order to ensure the success of the\nteam and the company as a whole. Having the desire to uplift our colleagues and\ncreates a culture of support that helps one feel fulfilled in their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\"><li><strong>SHARE YOUR TALENTS<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">When\nyou\u2019re good at your job, naturally, people tend to gravitate towards you and\nare eager to learn from you in order to better themselves. Knowing that others\nlook to you for mentorship adds new meaning to your professional life. Working\ntowards bettering your work for the purpose of helping others improve is a\nselfless way to find purpose in your work. It motivates you to keep showing up\nbecause you know that others look to you and are counting on you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\"><li><strong>ENJOY THE JOURNEY<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">For\nthe most part, we tend to focus on the destination rather than the journey in\nour professional lives. By doing this, we get caught up in climbing up the\ncorporate ladder and end up missing important details along the way. Of course,\nwe all want to succeed and grow in our careers, however, remember to appreciate\nthe small wins and the lessons along the way. Take pride and joy in your\npersonal goals and celebrate the achievements of others. These moments however\nsmall they may seem are those that we will look back at with joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">Remember\nthat having a sense of purpose and meaning in your work is a great way to boost\nproductivity and achieve better results.
